Safeguarding against adverse winter weather is a priority for businesses

With parts of the UK experiencing heavy rainfall over Christmas, businesses should put in place the necessary precautions to protect themselves against any adverse weather.
If your region experiences extreme weather conditions, employees may have difficulty getting to work safely. However, creating an effective weather policy will inform your employees of exactly what to do if the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worst.
This policy should include answers to any essential questions that your employees might have, including (but not limited to):
- What should I do if I cannot make it into work?
- Who should I contact if I cannot make it into work?
- How will I be notified/who do I need to contact if the office is closed?
- Am I able to work from home instead?
Having a policy that addresses these areas will help to minimise disruption and confusion during periods of adverse weather.
To further safeguard your business, ensure that valuable equipment is protected from the risk of burst pipes or flooding, and don’t forget to check that you have an appropriate insurance policy in place.
